From 2005 to 2014, Gene was an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, with stints in that Office’s International Narcotics and Terrorism team, and in the Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force. He represented the government at trial in the largest insider trading case ever charged.

Gene graduated from Brown University with a B.A. in 1990 and from New York University Law School with a J.D. in 1996.​
