
Elizabeth Sullivan
Senior Associate
Elizabeth is an experienced litigator and former federal law clerk whose practice focuses on criminal defense and cross-border federal regulatory litigation and investigations. She advises and defends individuals and entities, including publicly traded multinational corporations and private companies, foreign and domestic, against alleged violations of U.S. law, including allegations of fraud, securities violations, insider trading, money laundering, sanctions violations, and civil rights violations. Her experience also includes litigating complex commercial disputes in federal and state courts, conducting internal investigations, assisting foreign entities in pursuing U.S. discovery for use in foreign tribunals, advising on transactional risk assessments, and navigating compliance with foreign agent regulatory requirements.
Experience
Elizabeth maintains a robust civil and criminal federal appellate practice. She has briefed numerous federal appeals, including as counsel for appellants and appellees. She has argued a criminal appeal before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit concerning the interpretation of federal sentencing statutes and principles.
Elizabeth clerked for the Honorable L. Felipe Restrepo on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, as well as for the Honorable Michael M. Baylson and the Honorable Timothy R. Rice on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. While clerking, she volunteered with the Eastern District of Pennsylvania’s federal reentry court program for Philadelphia residents on supervised release, leading a team of volunteer law clerks that assisted participants with drafting resumes and applying for public benefits.
Prior to joining Esseks Ingoglia, Elizabeth was a litigator at a large international law firm headquartered in London. She started her legal career at an international law firm headquartered in New York City.
Elizabeth graduated from Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service with a B.S.F.S. in 2011. Prior to attending law school, Elizabeth worked for a U.S. defense contractor. She graduated from Cornell Law School with a J.D. in 2018, where she was a Publishing Editor of the Cornell Law Review and a Managing Editor of the Legal Information Institute (LII) Supreme Court Bulletin. She is currently a member of the University of Pennsylvania’s Inn of Court. ​​​
